Will My Cartridge Fit a Vessel Battery? A 510-Thread Compatibility Guide
Rad Dad Alternative · Gear, Explained
If your cartridge is labeled "510 thread," it will screw into a Vessel battery, including the Vessel Element and Vessel Craftsman. 510 thread is the industry-standard screw connection used by the large majority of prefilled oil cartridges on the market, and Vessel batteries are built specifically around that universal standard rather than a proprietary connector. The exceptions are magnetic or proprietary pod systems, which are not 510 thread at all, and unusually wide "mega" carts, which can still connect but may sit proud of the battery body.

What "510 thread" actually means
510 thread refers to a specific screw-thread spec, the same connection standard used across most vape hardware regardless of brand, named for its 10 threads at a roughly 5mm pitch. Because it is an open, widely adopted standard rather than a brand-specific connector, a 510-thread cart from one brand will generally screw into a 510-thread battery from a different brand.
What to double check before you buy a cart
Confirm the thread type on the packaging
Nearly all prefilled oil carts sold today are 510 thread, but always confirm it is stated on the product packaging or listing before assuming compatibility.
Check the cart's width against the battery's opening
A 510-thread cart will screw in regardless of width, but an unusually wide "mega" cart may sit taller or wider than the battery body itself. It still connects and functions, it just will not sit flush.
Rule out proprietary pod systems
Some brands use a magnetic or snap-in pod instead of a screw thread. Those pods are not 510 compatible and will not work with a Vessel or any other standard 510 battery.
Compatibility at a glance
| Cart type | Fits a Vessel battery? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard 510-thread oil cart | Yes | The large majority of prefilled carts on the market |
| Wide "mega" 510 cart | Yes, with caveats | Still screws in; may sit proud of the battery body |
| Magnetic / proprietary pod system | No | Not a 510-thread connector at all |
| Disposable all-in-one device | Not applicable | Built as a single sealed unit, no separate battery needed |
Why choose a 510 battery over a disposable
A reusable 510 battery like the Vessel Element or Vessel Craftsman lets you switch between brands and carts as you like, generally offers longer battery life and adjustable airflow than a sealed disposable, and is the more design-forward option if you care how the device looks and feels day to day.
The Vessel Element and Vessel Craftsman batteries are in our Elevated Gear collection, built around the universal 510 standard so they work with the standard cart you already have.
FAQ
Do all cartridges fit a Vessel battery?
Any cartridge labeled 510 thread will fit, which covers the large majority of prefilled oil carts on the market. Magnetic or proprietary pod-style carts are the exception and will not connect.
What is 510 thread?
It is an open, industry-standard screw-thread connection used across most vape hardware regardless of brand, which is why carts and batteries from different companies are usually interchangeable.
Can I use a Vessel battery with a CBD cart?
If the CBD cart is 510 thread, which is standard for the format, it will screw into a Vessel battery the same as any other 510 cart.
Will an oversized "mega" cart still work?
Yes, an oversized 510 cart still screws in and functions normally. It may simply sit wider or taller than the battery body rather than flush against it.
Is Vessel battery airflow adjustable?
Vessel batteries are built with airflow and voltage control as part of the device design; check the specific model's product page for its exact settings.
